(as the patient),

What could be improved

i went into the hospital for my second c-section as my 1st experiance was wonderfull in august 2004 with truley amazing staff. however last june was a completley different experiance, it was very unclean in some areas and only noticed 2 of the staff during my stay washing their hands. it took upto 2 hours on some occasions to get pain relief as staff changing shifts was not communicating properly..

The Trust has recently undertaken a rigorous deep cleaning programme in all areas, and Maternity has also benefited from new floor coverings and new sanitary ware and tiling in the shower rooms and bathrooms. This has had a very positive impact on the appearance of the environment. Regular audits of hand washing are undertaken jointly with the Infection control team, and the results of these are monitored regularly and show a continuous improvement.

Any reasons for delay in providing a client with adequate pain relief should be clearly discussed at the time, and every effort made to ensure that prescribed analgesia is effective. Delays in administration should always be documented, providing all staff with a clear record. On occasions delays are inevitable, but this issue will be addressed through our ward meetings.

The Matrons are ensuring that communication is a standing agenda item on all ward and team meetings, and audits of documentation and record keeping are regularly undertaken.
