"Had to wait until the "11th hour" for a confirmed bed"

About: James Paget University Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had a left hip replacement in April 2013. Very satisfied overall but I did not like the way I had to phone at the "11th hour" to confirm a bed for the operation.

The staff on ward 6 were superb. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for any of them, including the auxiliary staff who always had a friendly word for everyone in the bay that I was in. I was not rushed out after my operation and was only discharged after all concerned agreed that I was fit and ready to go.

The food was to a high standard with a good variety. My aftercare provided by the district nurses could not be faulted. I needed out of hours attention late one evening and was visited within one hour of my phone call.

Physio follow up was also excellent with everything explained as we went along. I can certainly walk well again and I am virtually pain free.
