"Experience of A&E at Belford"

About: Lochaber (Belford) Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I had severe pain in 1 of my testicles, had a temp of over 40 degrees, resting pulse over 150, high blood pressure, vomiting, uncontrollable shaking, etc attended A&E at the Belford about 10pm at night and was told by the nurse that they were too busy.

Had to stand in the corner for 30 mins while I called NHS 24 to see if I could get a GP appointment. I could of phoned NHS 24 from my own home, I attended A&E because after looking up the NHS website for advice it said I should call 999.

At the very least surely a nurse should of looked at me to determine weather I needed urgent medical care or not?

Dear extremepain

I am really sorry to hear that you have been unwell and in pain. And I apologise for the unsatisfactory experience you have described. I have been in touch with the Service Manager and the Senior Doctor for the Hospital and they would obviously like to look into this for you. While they can make some general inquiries if you were willing to speak with me and tell me a little more then we can speak with the staff on duty and find out why there were delays. You can contact me by phone 01463 704722 or via email maimie.thompson@nhs.net should you want to discuss this with me.

Once again I am sorry for any upset or inconvenience we have caused and I do hope you are feeling a bit better.
