"A and E. Monitoring of television programmes in..."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

Anything else?

I went to A and E at the Royal Oldham Hospital last night (21st July). It was late, around 11:30pm and I was shocked to see and listen to the programme that was on the TV on the wall in the waiting area (it was on about half an hour). It was about 'Sexting' and the content and language was extremely sexually explicit and exceptionally crude (in fact it was so bad I would not dream of writing it as part of this review!). I was very shocked that none of the staff noticed this. I got up to go to the window to ask the recpeptionist to turn it over but there was a queue of patients to check in and it was difficult to disturb her. There were young people and children in the waiting area as well as adults and I thought it was disgusting that this should be on the TV. I know staff are very busy and probably turn the TV on in the morning then just leave it on all day but they really should be aware of just what is being shown late at night. I am not a prude, but I would not watch this sort of programme at home and I certainly do not want it forced on me by my local hospital!
