What I liked

I was recntly taken to Emergency with breathing diffculties and spent 10 days in the hospital. Right from the beginning I was treated very well but did'nt enjoy spending nearly twenty hours on a trolley until I was found a bed on the Assessment ward. It was very uncomfortable and being attached to a drip made it even worse. I was on the assessment ward for a night and then moved to WestC5 Red Station4 on the Respitory Unit. The Nurses and all the staff on that ward were brilliant and very attentive even though they are grossly understaffed at times and with some difficult patients to deal with. They were always helpful, caring and cheerful but what I did'nt understand is why qalified Nurses have to make beds and help serve out food on top of all the other nursing duties. The food was wonderful,so much better than the Menu the day before method that used to be in place in hospital.

What could be improved

You probably will not like this but to my mind I think the Nursing staff,cleaners etc are undervalued by the Managers. They are the ones on the ground that do the work and therefore more Nurses should be employed on the wards and a few less Managers or Chiefs on big salaries doing very little. Perhaps these people should spend a bit more time on the wards actually seeing what goes on, then they would appreciate the difficulties the staff have.
