"TRAQS contacted me within six days"

About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS) The Princess Royal Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

After three tests on my urine the doctor, Dr Whitcomb, decided as there was blood present each time it was necessary to refer me onto urology.

Each time I contacted the clinic I was treated well and Dr Whitcomb contacted me at home to arrange an appointment with him.

Once a referral was made to TRAQS it took from six days for them to contact me. They explained the earliest appointment at a hospital which could be offered was at New Cross at Wolverhampton.

My preferred hospital, the Princess Royal, had a waiting list of 12 weeks. The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was similar. However, due to where I live, I chose the PRH.

Thank you for your feedback.

TRAQS is all about patient choice and where possible we always aim to book an appointment at the preferred hospital. Unfortunately we are not always able to do so due to the lack of appointments, which can result being placed on to a waiting list. TRAQS do not have any control over the waiting times for clinics and we are unable to advise exactly how long a patient may expect to be waiting for an appointment.

We always offer patients the earliest bookable appointment which may result in travelling to a hospital further afield; however, we do realise that this may not always be convenient to the patient. TRAQS aims to provide a service to help patients to be seen as quickly as possible without any undue delay in their referraL.

Again, many thanks for forwarding your comments.

Thank you for sharing your experience. This seems to describe how patient choice can work - there are options to be seen quickly even if your most local hospital currently has longer waiting lists. This might not be perfect if you really want to be seen quickly as locally as possibly, but on the other hand at least it does give you the choice if you are anxious and want to be see more quickly. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to let us know.
