"Retinal surgery"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

Anything else?

The consultant eye surgeon kept putting off my retinal surgery, My retina came of in May 2012, I had an operation in June 2012, unfortunately the retina came off once again. I was asked by the consultant to attend every two weeks. so that he can keep up to date with my eye condition, this went on until October, by this time I could hardly see through my left eye, by this time I was very ill could not sleep at night through worry that I mite loose my eye sight. I asked the consultant if he would carry out an operation on my eye, he informed me that it was to risky, I said that I no the risks I just want to have the surgery, he sent me away. I went to my doctor and asked him to explain to me about the detached retina, will it get to a stage were they will not be able to reach it ?. the doctor explained every thing to me, I asked him to write to the hospital asking them to carry out the operation. this he did. I received a letter from the hospital asking me to attend, I attended the eye department and was examined by the same consultant, I asked him after the examination would he carry out my operation as he had done the last detached retina operation. he informed me that it is better to have one bird in the hand than two birds in the bush. I asked him to refer me to another surgeon if he did not feel confident in doing the operation. he reluctantly put me on his waiting list. I waited that long for the operation that I moved to Manchester and had the operation carried out at the royal eye hospital. I have written to Blackpool Victoria hospital complaining about my treatment. still waiting for a reply to my letter.
