"Lack of Compassion and bullying nurses"

About: Lincoln County Hospital

Anything else?

I am a heavy user of Lincoln County Hospital. The first time I complained about being feeling "unsafe" and bullying by nurses, lack of compassion and being talked down to was to a Consultant in Oct 2101. All he said was sorry. I witnessed some appauling behaviours by nurses to some very vulnerable patients. Whilst in hospital I had to ask my GP to write a prescription for medication for nebulisation and inhalers as the ward staff told me it was Christmas and I would have to wait 4 days for asthma relief. My husband then picked up the prescription and brought it the hospital. On another occassion I was given an out of date inhaler which I couldnt use. The Staff Nurse who gave me the inhaler told me to "work it out for myself" I have witnessed an elderly lady being dragged down a ward by 5 nurses, her crime was sitting on the wrong seat. I have had a nurse point her finger in my face and tell me off, my crime was laughing at a joke my husband told me. I have been given another patients medication and have witnessed another patient being given my medication. I have had a Staff Nurse shouting at me becuase I refused to take the dose of medication she was trying to give me, I kept telling her it was the wrong does, finally she got the pharmasist to see me and he told the Staff Nurse I was right and she had got the dose wrong. I have had to endure nurses shouting from one ward to another about what Pizza topping they wanted, this was at 2am in the morning whilst patients where trying to sleep. I have witnessed a nurse slamming her hands against a patients bed rail and shouting to this very poorly lady "what is it you expect from me". In 2011, I wrote a 20 page letter of complaint to the Secretary of Health, the Shadow Secretary of Health, the CQC, and my local MP. None of them acknowledged my letter. When I sent a written complaint to the hospital by recorded delivery the denied receving it. When I sent it again the respose made me feel as if all of the above was my fault. As already mentioned I am a heavy user of Lincoln County Hospital and have numerous admssion every year for the past 4 years. I alwasy feel fearfull that I will die in this hospital due to lack of care or understanding. I am unablt to give a specific date on your survey as I have numerouse admissions.

Your story was very difficult to read and the issues and concerns you have raised need to be looked into further. I note you have said you have complained in the past but not had a response - this is another reason for me needing to investigate.....please could you contact me directly at: jennie.negus@ulh.nhs.uk so that I can get some more details and help you?
