"Poor staffing"

About: Conquest Hospital

Anything else?

I think that the main problem is that the wards are chronically understaffed & the management higherarchy is poor with little or no support for the nurses. They are too busy & things get missed. The amount of paperwork I have seen them having to fill in is ridiculous & it takes them away from patient care. The management needs to be got rid of & more clinical staff in charge that know what they are doing & what the patients needs are. It's all very well filling in forms but it doesn't get the basic care done. Overall I think this hospital is heading for a crisis

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I would like to assure you that, along with many other safety precautions, we constantly monitor staffing levels to ensure that we have the correct staffing for the patient care using national tools for monitoring this. I value your comments on the amount of paperwork that needs to be completed. As a trust we are committed to continuously reviewing and ensuring that only essential documentation is kept by our clinical staff, however documentation is extremely important and essential for communication purposes and ensuring a thorough, efficient and above all, safe delivery of essential care which means that it is an integral part of the role. At East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the ways we continuosly check the quality of care we provide is by routinely asking patients for feedback on their experience. Our current survey results show that 95% of the patients who provided feedback about their inpatient stay would be "extremely likely" or "likely" to recommend the ward they stayed on to friends or family if they needed similar care or treatment. We apologise if you had a poor experience. We would be interested to hear more detail and look into your concerns. We have a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who can be contacted on 01424 758090 or by emailing: PALSH@esht.nhs.uk Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We will ensure your comments are shared with relevant staff.
