"lasering eye"

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus) / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

After having cataract surgery, I was left with a little puffiness under one eye. A friend suggested as I had private medical insurance I should have it corrected. I went on line and found a consultant who was at Moorfields and also practised privately. This consultant said they could see scarring and performed a YAG laser capsulotomy. As I was sitting in position for this procedure, they mentioned seemingly casually there was a small percentage of these procedures ending in blindness. They did not intimate that what they were about to do not only might not work but could result in a posterior vitreous detachment. This is exactly what happened. I still have the original puffiness plus a vitreous detachment. It swirls about in my eye like a smeary curtain and I am now unable to drive at night and have to dim my lights at home. They also diagnosed blepharitis which I most certainly did not have. I would imagine had I have seen them on the NHS they would have left me alone - which would have been a blessing.
