Can I please express gratitude for the tremendous care and skill applied by the peritoneal clinic surgeon and his team in carrying out successful extensive HIPEC surgery for my wife . BACKGROUND:- On consultation with the surgeon on 31st July 2012 a PET scan revealed a suspected recurrence of colorectal cancer with a large growing tumour affecting a number of organs including the peritoneal. Following a thorough examination, he indicated the affected areas on the scan. To our relief, he said he could help and explained the specialised surgery (HIPEC). We both felt a renewed hope following the consultation. OPERATION:- The Extensive surgery was carried out on the 21st of August 2013 followed by cyto- reduction with HIPEC . The surgeon and his theatre team brought my wife through a successful procedure with skill ,dedication and care. POST SURGERY:- Following surgery the recovery care from the surgeon ,the HDU, Ward 16, physiotherapists and the clinical specialist bowel nurse was truly excellent .Exceptional care, sensitivity and dedication were uppermost in dealing with the phases of my wife’s recovery. Throughout her period in hospital both myself and our family felt fully involved and informed of her progress and found everyone approachable friendly and helpful. THE SURGEON :- As well as carrying out excellent specialist surgery he also ensured aftercare was to a high standard. His regular ward visits were reassuring and ensured that any changes required to aid recovery were carried out promptly and effectively. Communication was excellent, given in a sensitive caring manner and straightforward clarity. It was so helpful for my wife and her GP to receive full documented copies of Consultations. A wonderful ambassador for Good Hope and the NHS. SUMMARY : Twelve months ago my wife’s health was failing fast and prospects were not good. However thanks to the excellent work carried out at Good Hope Hospital the transformation in her health is truly remarkable. We realise her condition may always need monitoring and managing. However thanks to all the special people at Good Hope She is experiencing a new lease of life which has exceeded our expectations and for which we are so grateful .
