"Smoking within the hospital grounds."

About: Southampton General Hospital / Cardiology

(as a relative),

I had reason to visit the hospital over a period of six weeks as a relative had been admitted with a serious heart complaint. I was appalled at the number of patients and visitors smoking immediately outside the entrance/ exits, on a number of occasions the smoke was blowing many yards into the hospital.

There are signs clearly stating that this is forbidden but it would appear that the hospital management and security staff show little interest.

I do not smoke and have no wish to. I ask that you stop this filthy, unhygienic behaviour.

THank you for your comments and I am sorry for your poor experience . We do have a policy relating to smoking, and encourage staff to advise patients and visitors of the specific onsite facilities available should they wish to smoke.
