What I liked
The nursing staff are hard pressed but very tolerant and patient. A lot of unnecessary abuse is received by them due to lack of info and remote medical staff unavailable to reassure patients/family or even prepared to make an appointment.
What could be improved
Communicaton. Communication. Communication. My father moved 5 times in 2 weeks after coming in as a trauma, the last ward couldn't tell us where he'd been taken. Despite ringing several times to the consultant's secretary, as suggested by nursing staff to arrange to speak to the consultant, no reply has been forthcoming for a week. Patients and family get very frustrated and stressed and a simple 5-minute communication to visitors would allieviate this. Many must feel abandoned the longer they are in. On a "snow warning" weekend, on the Friday and Saturday no hot food was available due to short staffing - surely this is unacceptable.
