"The staff on the ward were very ..."

About: Bedford Hospital South Wing

(as a relative),

What I liked

The staff on the ward were very nice and willing to help my son after his operation.

What could be improved

Waiting around for the consultant was very frustrating, my son was on the ward for three days nil by mouth before they decided to operate and then was discharged the day after he had his gangrenous appendix removed. He had to go in again 10days later in severe pain with an infection. The communication between staff on the ward and the consultants was very hit and miss. Also of the eight days he was back in hospital being treated with iv antibiotics, his bedding was only changed twice, once being by myself and his nan. Both times admission was through A&E and although my son was in a lot of pain he did not get any pain relief until just before admission, a couple of hours each time after we had initially arrived at A&E.
