Anything else?
My 83 year old mother fell down a full flight of stairs and was taken to A/E, having been unconscious for 5 minutes, where she was found to have a fractured spine, however even with the knowledge that she lives alone, they tried to discharge her home. Eventually she was admitted to an orthopaedic ward where they failed to address the reason she had fallen down the stairs in the first place. I had to fight to get her into respite care after 2 weeks in hospital, (because the social workers insisted that she was capable of being left unattended at night) where they (the care home) admitted that she was in no way able to care for herself atall, and now she is in a residential care home nearer to my address, at a cost of £760 per week because she is still unable to go home! She has had a further 5 falls since living there for the last 4 weeks, and we are still trying to address the problems which caused her falling in the first place, but it is taking time because this was ignored initially in hospital! As of 2 falls yesterday she is now unable to walk! I wrote a letter of complaint to the chief executive of Southend Hospital which was delivered(signed for) on 24th June, and this has to date not even received an acknowledgement! If you value your dignity and expect to be treated with any sort of care or compassion, do not go to Southend Hospital!!!
