I saw a consultant after having blood tests that showed my CA125 to be extremelty high. He dismissed this examined me and said there was nothing wrong but he would do an ultrasound just to satisfy me. He asked for a routine scan with a particular doctor. I had to wait 3 weeks for this scan but the lady doctor was fantastic. She took her time and was very thorough and found a large tumour in tback of my pelvic area. She arranged for me to see a doctor the next morning who arranged a ct scan 5 days later. I then saw a surgeon who told me it was Ovarian cancer and surgery was not an option. He was very kind and no nonsense and said they would do all they could to help me. 2 days later I saw my oncologist who was to give me the chemotherapy. She was amazing and positive and said I would be fine and she would do everything she could. I started my chemo on January 11th after the christmas holidays. It was tough but my oncologist kept me going. To cut a long story short after 4 chemos I was able to have surgery followed by 2 more chemos. The surgery was done immediatly after the effects of the 4th chemo had worn off. I made a fantastic recovery after a huge surgery, the staff on the ward were amazing and so kind and comforting. I have been in remission for a year now, but if I get any concerns I only have to ring and I can see my oncologist almost straight away. I do not think I would get this kind of care private or otherwise anywere else. A fantastic hospital.
