"waiting lists."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham / General surgery

(as the patient),

In January 2013 I visited my GP in regards to lumps in right shoulder & left under arm.

my GP referred me to the Queen Elizabeth (university hospital Birmingham). Using the choose & book service I arranged my appointment.

Two weeks later I met with a consultant who agreed to put me forward for surgery as the lumps are painful & affecting my ability to work.

I was told I would have my operation within 4 weeks. It's is now July 2013 & I have heard nothing. I can barely pick up my youngest child due to the pain & have lost many days at due to being sent home.

I understand that waiting list are made on a priority basis, but I dont feel that 6 months + is an acceptable time to be left waiting when you were told 4 weeks.

We would like to look into this further, firstly to find out what the reason is for the delay and also to establish whether we are in a position to give you a date for your surgery. To do this we will need to obtain some details from you so that we can identify you and establish which surgical team will be operating on you.

If you would like us to do this for you please make contact via our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).

PALS can be contacted by phone 0121 371 3280, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk, via the hospital website http://www.uhb.nhs.uk/pals-form.htm or in person by dropping in between 9am – 4.30pm (Mon-Fri) to the PALS office located to the left of the Information Desk in the main entrance of the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
