"Terrible nightmare experience in Emergency &..."

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Anything else?

My farther was admitted to Medway hospital yesterday evening around 7pm by ambulance as he was going unconscious due to his sugar levels dropping dangerously low. Once in, it was established that his heart rate was unstable. He also had an infection in his genitals which We believe to be caused by his catheter (but up to this point no medical staff have actually told us what the precise problem is, so we are just left guessing). He was in pain due to this infection from the moment of getting to the hospital however was given no pain relief at all until 2:15am the following morning. He wasn't even given a glass of water over a period of 8hours! By midnight the staff advised us that he was able to go home as they felt he was stable enough (he clearly wasn't stable enough) therefore we refused to go and insisted that he stayed the night to be monitored and we stayed with him by his bedside throughout the night as we sadly felt that no care was being given at all. At 2:15am this morning he was given paracetamol via drip to assist with the pain. This didn't work and then at 3am he was given Morphine which did help a little but he was still in an immense amount of pain (screaming with pain). We eventually managed to get a x-ray done at 4am this morning. We haven't been told of the results yet as at 16:50hours. By 1:50pm today he was discharged. He wasn't given any pain relief meditation or medication to deal with the infection causing the pain, upon being discharged (despite the fact that we were told he would be given medication). We are still unaware of what the actual problem is. He is now at home still in a huge amount of pain, crying constantly with the pain. This is how it has been left, no medication, no support whatsoever, nothing.....
