What I liked
I was admitted as an emergency in early January. The consultant I saw was first-class, he diagnosed my condition and gave me all the information as to the various possibilities that could ensue once the emergency operation began. His manner reassured me and I went into the operation fully informed. The post-operative care once back on the ward left me feeling miserable, however once I had voiced my concerns to the Staff nurse, she listened and was able to agree the care was not good enough. From that point on I was well cared for and left hospital in just seven days, well on the way to recovery.
What could be improved
The nursing staff are so busy on a surgical ward, there are times when explanations are not given as to why a particular action is being taken. It would be helpful if time could be made to ask the patient if everything is understood about their nursing.
