Originally I was admitted in August 2012,unable to breath,lethargic,dizzy,chest pains etc. my gp had referred me to mau,where I spent the night.it was found I had an abnormal ECG and enlarged heart.the dr who saw me on ward round discharged me,saying at 29 my enlarged heart was due to my weight and I had asthma....2weeks later I was rushed in by ambulance into resus,my lungs had filled up with fluid,I had severe heart failure.i was transferred to mau(which to be honest I can't remember because I was so poorly)after a few days I was transferred to ward 31 under the care of a Consultant. Now for a 29 yr old lady this ward was horrendous,I was helping to feed and give drink to a 90 yr old lady because staff were to busy.the ward is mixed and being a victim of abuse as a child I found it highly intimidating.i was given lots of tests where it was discovered I have dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure.why was this not found 2weeks earlier? My next stay was over new year 2012-2013.once again,in through resus,up to mau and then transferred to ward 31.whilst on mau,the auxilerry nurses were arguing,slammed the food trolley door closed in her temper and left the other auxilerry nurse in tears.she was a lovely lady and would come and sit and talk to me.then a nurse(who has obviously chosen the wrong career) came on shift.i was awaiting transfer so the nice auxilerry asked if she could do it,she was boldly told no then when the nurse found out she had to to take me for an echo during transfer she was moaning that she didn't have time,basically I felt like an inconvenience.the rest of my stay was pleasant on ward 31 as I was given my own room although very,very,very short staffed. My most recent stay was may2013.an incident with the same nurse on mau,keeping my medication in her pocket and not giving it to me.this was the last straw and I complained to pals regarding last incident.i have received an apology and the nurse in question will be spoken to.my worry is,like I've said previously,I'm only 29,I have my wits about me,what about older patients with memory problems,in my view she shouldn't be allowed to care(and I use the word very loosely)for patients. I was that upset by my treatment that I have spoken in length to my gp about transferring hospital.it has been decided that I stay at Tameside as they have all my history,I have an excellent heart failure nurse, a good cardiologist, and his team(brilliant doc,always makes me smile). So next time im on mau if I get the same nurse I have to tell the matron so I'm not under her care.the hospital struggles,there are do many good people doing things,but we always remember the bad. And can I also say thank you to the sister in resus,fantastic nurse.ive had good and bad experiences here,but ultimately,the staff in resus saved my life last sept and my 3little boys have a mum.
