"Aortic Aneurism"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Anything else?

On Friday 11th Jan a random ultrasound scan held at Moss Grove surgery Kinver identified a 12 cm aortic aneurism. The following Tuesday I was seen by a surgeon at Stafford Hospital who advised me that he would operate as soon as possible.. Test were proceeding when on 7th Feb at lunchtime I was alarmed by an odd condition. An ambulance was called and the paramedics took me to our local hospital, Russels Hall. At 11 pm or so I was seen by a consultant at New Cross hospital who said he would speak with the surgeon and arrange for me to have an operation on Tuesday 12th Feb. In the interim I was to stay in hospital under close observation. The operation proceeded as he arranged. I cannot speak too highly of the treatment I received. The surgeon inspired the greatest confidence in me despite the obvious risks, and the subsequent treatment in intensive care, high dependency and intermediate dependency struck me as offering the highest level of courtesy and professionalism.. Nine days after the operation I could return home and except for a recent fairly vicious testicular infection have since been in reasonable health for my 81 years.

Thank you, Paul, for taking the time to leave such glowing feedback about the care you received at our hospital. It is wonderful to know that you felt safe and well cared both during your operation and throughout your stay on our wards. We are very proud of our vascular service – Russells Hall Hospital has been carrying out operation on abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) for patients across the Black Country since The Dudley Group became the specialist centre for vascular surgery in July last year. We are fortunate enough to have the expertise of surgeons from Wolverhampton, Walsall and Dudley. Together they make up the Black Country Vascular Network and perform vascular surgery at our hospital. Many of our patients who have received similar surgery to your own have had their aneurysms detected on the Black Country AAA screening programme which invites men in their 65th year for scan. We hope your fantastic success story will encourage more men to take up the offer of a routine scan. We will be delighted to pass on your lovely comments to the teams involved in your care.
