I’m sorry you had concerns about your treatment for stroke. I can confirm though that we do offer rapid clot-busting treatment (thrombolysis) to treat all appropriate patients. Many patients are not suitable for this treatment (called alteplase), however. For example, clinical guidelines state that doctors should only offer this treatment if clinicians can be sure it is a clot not a bleed type of stroke. Treatment must be started within four hours of the start of symptoms of a stroke. If it is not possible to offer clot-busting treatment, we offer alternative care that meets the highest standards, which may include aspirin which is effective after a longer period of time than alteplase.
