What I liked
I went to Addenbrooks to have a second opinion, which I am very very happy now that I did.
First of all just to receive a letter that says.... call us and we will arrange a mutual convenient time... Is a huge difference to what I am used to from my local NHS hospital.
The Doctor that I am seeing seems extremely competent, understanding and informative. During my appointment, he pulled out his little book, told me the days he could do the operation and we decided on a day together. Impressive....
I have now had the operation and I am very pleased with the 2 days stay I had at L4. The facilities are excellent, I had a nice single room, and the standard of cleaning was very good. The nursing staff was very nice, helpful and understanding and I felt comfortable and in safe hands all the time.
All the Doctors seemed competent, I was a bit disappointed though that I did not see the Doctor again, that did the operation. He did a brilliant job and I am very pleased with the result. But the Doctors that came to see me on the ward after, had to discuss my questions with him and then return hours later.
The best thing about my stay though, was that I was lucky to have a student nurse follow me on the day of the operation. She diverted my mind before operation, was holding my hand when I was put to sleep, and she was their when I woke up and took care of me for the rest of the day. She was simply lovely and it was very very nice to have the same person around.
What could be improved
The food tasted nice, but could be a bit healthier. I missed fresh vegetables, but I guess that is expensive.....
