Anything else?
I would like to give a huge thank you to all the staff that dealt with me, from the A&E staff, the lovely ladies on Knapp Ward, my anaesthetist to the surgeon. I stabbed my hand on glass a week ago, went to A&E in Torbay to be told after 4 hours they could put a sticking plaster on the wound. They were sadly very over-stretched and fed up. I did suggest that I could go and could come back another day/ contact my GP. I was told to wait, which was fine, but when I was finally seen, by a nurse not a Doctor, she told me she could put a sticking plaster on it if I liked...?? when I pointed out I could feel nerve damage, she told me that it always feels funny after you cut yourself. OK, this was a rather patronising comment, however I do understand that A&E is more for people that are 'bleeding and broken' and I wasn't, so I thought it was best if I went to my GP, which I did on the Tuesday. I was referred within 24 hours and the op was done on the Sunday to repair a cut nerve. They even came in when the ward was closed to do it as the list was so full. How good is that! Amazing, amazing, I think we are so lucky with our NHS, and whilst I had a bit of an unfortunate episode to begin with at another hospital, these poor staff work so hard to deal with us all and the stress must be a nightmare! If you think how many people go through the system at any one time, it's a miracle it runs as well as it does! So please, please, show some compassion and gratitude to the tireless and dedicated NHS staff, especially in Exeter. Thank you all xxxx
