I have just completed a 6 month course of chemotherapy as a daycase patient at NUH City Hospital.
From my personal perspective I received 6 months of first class care from a professional, patient-driven organisation and delivered by staff with brilliant nursing and people skills.
This is a well managed, busy unit delivering a high quality service despite limited resources and poor external supply services.
It provides top class nursing delivered with skill, care, tact, humour, diplomacy and humanity.
There is almost no bureaucracy and a conscious and constant effort by the staff to maintain a cheerful atmosphere.
When thick snow closed many other public organisations the unit continued to operate almost normally through sheer hard work, extra hours and willpower - without lowering standards.
I have no doubt that this unit has improved, extended and saved many lives and will continue to do so.
I urge NUH Management to ensure that adequate resources are provided to maintain and improve this service. The two major issues are the late supply of chemo and the limited capacity of the unit - staff, environment etc. At times it was stretched. However, I understand that these issues are being addressed.
My thanks to all involved.
"Excellent chemotherapy treatment."
