Anything else?
I attended Wythenshawe Hospital for a hysterectomy and anterior repair, i was extremely pleased that my surgery went ahead on the planned day, and i was discharged on day 3 post op. I was under the care of a surgeon who performed my surgery I would like to send my appreciation and thanks to him, an excellent surgeon. The only negative points i have are the gynae ward toilets often had bedpans with urine left in situ, as needed to be seen/tested by nurses, As well as unnamed and unhygienic it was also unpleasant to see, maybe the patient could have a paper cover with their name on, and be advised to place in sluice when ready. My last point is i felt my pain relief despite requesting was unmanaged and inadequate at times. Maybe a more regular record of pain score following pain relief would be beneficial to future patients. Also when a patient is still complaining of pain following pain relief a review of further relief or increasing dose should be undertaken. I have had 3 children normal deliveries with gas & air and pethidine so do not feel like my pain threshold was low but i can say that post op following above surgery I was in pain. I understand that wards are busy but none the less with the above improvements I would highly recommend.
