I called the 111 service after I woke up with terrible pain.
The woman who answered was friendly but I felt the whole experience was formulaic whereas when I used the previous service felt like I was speaking to someone professional who knew what they were talking about.
This operator called for an ambulance as she felt I should be seen in hospital. I was taken to the St George’s hospital in Tooting.
Although it was a difficult experience for me I received fantastic treatment having been admitted to an acute ward for a week. My wife wondered if I should be transferred to a surgical ward but the ward staff where I was must have thought I was better off where I was – the surgical staff came to see me on the acute ward. The surgical team explained the process to me, I knew what to expect and found this very reassuring.
The discharge process was very efficient, everything was prepared the day before so I was able to leave very promptly.
My only criticism (minor) is that the hospital does not cater for a fat free diet for people with gall bladder problems.
