"Please tell me why this was tolerated, it put me at great risk."

About: Drug and alcohol services / Acer Unit, Bristol

(as the patient),

On the date of my arrival, another severe user arrived smashed out of his nut and generally abusing and rude, which I allowed for.

Since that day he had confrontations with every client. Eventually he attempted to bully me. First he accused me of taking sides with other victims and stood in my way when I tried to leave the tea room and asked him to move he offered to fight me.

Another occasion in a group I stormed out cuz he was rude, he followed me out then more threats followed!

Following that he made hand gestures offering me outside, I told staff and once again no action was taken.

I'm detoxing from alcohol and my anxiety is 10/10. Please tell me why this was tolerated, it put me at great risk.

Thank you for posting comments about your recent stay on Acer. We are very sorry to hear that you encountered problems with another individual on the unit.

We appreciate that undergoing detoxification can be highly stressful, and we will ask the ward manager to investigate why no action was taken in this case. We hope that you were able to stay on the unit despite your experience.

We try hard to make the unit as safe and as comfortable as possible. We have peer mentors regularly visiting the unit, and we hope that you felt better supported by staff and peer mentors for the remainder of your stay. Generally we have excellent feedback about Acer; however, we are always looking to improve standards of care, and therefore we are grateful for you raising these concerns.

We wish you all the best in your recovery.
