"Acer Unit: No seperate male lounge"

About: Drug and alcohol services / Acer Unit, Bristol

(as the patient),

I don't think it is fair that there is a separate female lounge and not a separate male lounge.

Men can be abused by women and as a result feel uncomfortable around them. This can make men feel paranoid and want to isolate.

Thank you for your comment. We are very sorry that the lack of a separate male-only lounge resulted in you feeling paranoid and wanting to isolate. In designing the Unit we took into account national recommendations around the design of in-patient facilities, and at the time, separate women-only lounges were recommended as good practice. However, we acknowledge that abuse issues are not restricted to women only. Feeling safe is key to a successful admission, and we have taken your comments on board in planning for future facilities. We hope that you successfully completed your admission – and we wish you all the very best in your recovery journey.
