"ambulatory care visit"

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

Anything else?

I was referred to Ambulatory CAre by my GP with a query DVT. During the investigations for this I was expected to WALK unaided from Amb CAre to the Ultrasound dept @junction 7, and back. I was not asked if I needed help or offered a wheelchair. I was inconsiderable pain and although offered pain relief none was given. The investigations revealed a severe rupture of the calf muscle and I was told to go home n crutches and be non-weight bearing until my fracture clinic appt one week later. I was given a pair of crutches which i had to adjust myself( in fact I told the nurse how to do this); no-one showed me how to use these ; no-one checked how I would get home, if I lived alone, or if I was able to access essential facilities at home! Fortunately for me, I was an Occupational Therapist, but had this not been the case I would have been at risk and feel the above issues should have at least been checked.
