"A&E is a nightmare"

About: Barnet Hospital

Anything else?

After spending two days at home vomiting due to H. Pylori I was advised by my GP to go to A&E as I was not able to eat and my condition was worsening. Having been there for the same reason in April I thought this time they would take care of me, how wrong was I!!! I explained this has been going on since April, I have lost a lot of weight, I'm 7 stone and 5'4". The nurses could not care less. When trying to get blood the nurse messed up and there was blood pouring out of my arm, no wonder my arm is so bruised now. When I was finally able to see a doctor he told me he could not send me to the gastro doctor as I was vomiting blood like coffee grains. I tried to explain the last time I was there the other I had seen told me vomiting fresh blood was not worrying but coffee ground blood is as it's a sign of an ulcer. I asked to be kept there as I was so weak and had to call an ambulance to get there. I was sent home, appalling...

As an organisation we are committed from learning from specific issues and from any mistakes we may have made. Hearing about where we can do better helps us to pinpoint where exactly to make improvements to the service we provide. The Trust apologies for the poor experience that you had in our emergency department. Please contact the Trust on bcfpals@nhs.net if you wish to provide your details and get a more detailed response from the a&e dept manager.
