"5 star experience"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

Today the staff were amazing from when I went in for my op until I left.  I was looked after and was always kept informed.

The only down part is when you are waiting to go in you can't have food or drink, but people coming out having food and drink. Other than that my experience was 5 star.

Hi A camp

Thank you for taking the time to provide positive feedback on your experience in University Hospital Wishaw while undergoing surgery.

I am really pleased to read that you felt informed and well looked after from start to finish.

Pre- operative fasting is necessary however it is especially difficult when you are in the vicinity of those able to eat and drink post procedure.

I hope you have a quick and uneventful recovery.

Many Thanks

Ben

Dear A Camp, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback of your experience at UHW. I am pleased to see that overall your experience was very positive and I will ensure this is communicated back to the staff.

I am also pleased to let you know that going forward, we are planning on implementing a "Sip till send" policy for many of our surgical patients (with a few medical exemptions).

This will enable those patients to have fluids until they leave for surgery. This is anticipated to commence from September.

Kind Regards

David

Dear A Camp,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion. The team hope you are recovering well at home.

The team will be pleased to hear that you had a “5-star experience” and that you felt “looked after” and were “always kept informed”.

We understand that it is difficult to wait for your surgery whilst having to fast, however we understand that this is more challenging when you can see other patients eating and drinking.

We have changed the flow within day surgery and we now have a pre-operative area (patients waiting to go for their surgery) and a post operative area (where patients are recovering for home). We hope this implementation makes it a bit easier for patients waiting to go for their procedure.

We are looking forward to the ‘sip till send” being implemented in the ward, this will enable patients to have clear fluids up until they go to theatre.

Kind Regards

Amy
