I attended Trauma Assessment Clinic with a finger fracture two days ago, it having been arranged by an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) at Vale of Leven minor injuries unit.
I was seen promptly by a nurse Amy who explained what was going to happen during the appointment. I also had a quick consultation with the registrar who was very open and clear about what was planned. He then administered some local anaesthetic and did some fairly unpleasant but entirely necessary manipulation and splinting of the broken finger.
Two nurses stayed with me the whole time (Amy and another woman whose name I can’t remember, sorry). This was appreciated because while the procedure was being expertly done, it was a bit disconcerting and had the potential to be distressing. Because the nurses were there being very calm and friendly I felt very reassured. The doctor was also chatty and kind and super professional.
From start to finish the experience (while a bit nerve-wracking) was impeccable.
