In April I attended the eye clinic at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro and this month the glaucoma assessment clinic at the same hospital. Also this month an appointment at the Falmouth health centre. Everyone I saw on each occasion were extremely helpful in explaining things and answering any questions and I am very happy regarding that. What I am not happy about is the distances travelled to get to these appointments. For Truro, it meant a round trip of 56 miles on each occasion. I had to get a bus into Penzance, a train to Truro, then a bus to the hospital. And then do it in reverse to get back home.
As my appointment at Falmouth was for 10:00 am It would have been impossible by public transport. So my son took a day off to drive me there and back.
Why, when we have a perfectly good hospital In Penzance can't these and more clinics be held there? This would save the worry of transport not to mention the time involved. It is not easy, If like me, you are in your mid eighties.
