I am pregnant and had been having dizzy spells so I was scheduled in for some blood tests. I was seen by Kiki at Galashiels Health Centre and she could not have been any more caring or conscientious.
She asked some questions about how I have been feeling and rather than just doing the blood tests I was scheduled in for she checked several things with me and diagnosed I was having issues with low blood sugar levels and having hypos as I have gestational diabetes. My blood sugar levels were the first thing I thought of when I started having dizzy spells so before I had rang to see a midwife I had phoned the diabetic team. However, despite being very friendly towards me the diabetic team did not take the time to look over my blood testing results like Kiki did and didn't ask me many questions. They suggested it was likely an issue with my iron levels and suggested I speak to the midwives . I then had to wait several days before I saw Kiki which was an unnecessary delay as I was then referred back to the diabetic team.
The NHS provide such a fantastic service and having midwives like Kiki who show so much empathy and care towards you, especially when you are feeling vulnerable in pregnancy, is priceless. I could not be any more grateful for the care and support that I received, thank you Kiki.
