"Long waiting times and people being seen before us"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as a relative),

My dad was sitting in A&E for 11 hours at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and was waiting to get seen by a doctor. An announcement came out on the 11th hour saying no one would be seen before 6am which would then take the total waiting time to 15 hours.

This is a joke! I got speaking to a couple who had a young boy who was no bigger than 8 years old who had a head injury and vomiting every time he sat up and was in an hour before my dad which is unacceptable. I saw other people that came in get straight through, which is also a joke considering there were very sick and unhappy people waiting beforehand.

Falkirk is getting let down big style by this and I would love for this to be taken seriously and further looked at if possible.

Dear JordanM98xx

I sincerely hope your dad is recovering from his injury, and would like to apologise for your experience whilst visiting our Emergency department,. I do apologise for the long wait you and your dad had. We are extremely busy as a department right now and patients are being triaged by a nurse on arrival and being seen on clinical priority. This can seem unfair when people are being taken in front of you especially when you are experiencing such long waits. We are working with our Communications department to try reach out to the public to give alternatives to coming up to hospital and advising the use of 111 for all patients who do not require to be seen in the emergency department.

I again apologise for your long wait and would like to give you reassurance that we are working to make improvements to the patient journey as we appreciate it is not a great experience having people sitting about the emergency department for lengthy periods of time awaiting a clinician to review.

Yours Sincerely

Donna Clark

Operational Manager
