I recently had a hip replacement at DGRI. The care from start to finish has been exemplary. I was admitted and seen by Miss Hawkins and her team in the morning, receiving clearly delivered information about what would happen and given time to ask questions. The process felt professional and compassionate throughout.
During surgery the staff in theatre continued to support me, checking in regularly that I was okay and explaining what was happening. It was my first time having a spinal anaesthetic and I was worried about being awake during the process. My worries were unfounded and staff preserved my dignity throughout.
In the recovery room I was provided a similarly high level of care - thank you so much for your care.
Once on the short stay unit I was given information about the ward routine, how to summon help, meals, meds etc. This helped me understand the routine and I felt able to ask questions.
All the ward staff delivered high quality care and worked so hard to make sure that patients felt supported and valued. I would however like to say a special big thank you to Denise, Hannah, Sally, Lynne, Maureen, Rachel, and student nurse Sonia. Your kind words, patience and ability to go the extra mile were really appreciated.
Being in hospital can feel vulnerable and disorientating and you all helped so much in making me feel connected and seen. Thanks!
