My mother was admitted to the amru for a chest infection which later turned out to be a lot worse than originally thought - she is now thankfully home and slowly recovering. My mother has had several admissions to this ward over the years and I have never had an unpleasant experience.
However during her most recent admission I felt like I was being a burden to the staff nurses when going to ask for sick bowls as she was vomiting and also asking for her medication to be administered. I also witnessed a staff nurse pick up a cup , look into it which had a small amount of milk left over in it to then pour water in and hand to my mother to drink along with taking her tablets!
This is not acceptable you wouldn't allow this for your own family!
I however could not praise the hcsws that I came across on the ward whilst visiting before my mother was moved to another ward.
