"Very Considerate Practice "

About: Fairbrook Medical Centre

I live in Clapham but my family in Borehamwood. My elderly mum who is 87 is slowing dying of Chronic Kidney Disease and other ailments as well as vascular dementia. I generally speak to the Practice on her behalf. I have Power of Attorney. They have shown such kindness and patience to her. Fairbrook is very, very oversubscribed but I have always found them to be so caring. I know it is hard for the Practice as too many housing complexes have been built without infrastucture to supply more schools, roads or GPs. I have found the Fairbrook team to be polite under so much stress. I wish there was some relief in the area for them. Sadly this is not the case. They do a brilliant job and although at times it might be frustating to get through,or get an appointment if not urgent. I have no complaints. To put up with all they have on their plate they are angels. It is not their fault there are too many patients. If it is deemed an urgent request, life threatening they have been there to assist. ie: My mother due to dementia overdosed on her tablets as she forgot - well helped herself! Tablets now hidden!! It is not an easy balance. I would never berate them for the care they are able to give under such pressure. I am thankful they are there to listen. Above all, it is not their fault. There should be more GPS in an ever-expanding area of people. It used to be a village, soon it will be a mini city. Just too many people in the area. Thank you Fairbrook. You have been brilliant to my mum and family.

Thank you for your review. It is very knowledgeable about the pressures in the NHS. I am sorry that you are having to use the service more and more for your mum and for what you are all going through.

We have expanded our team with various other clinicians but still have an advert our for more GP time. Carers in Herts are also a great organisation to help with your situation and we can also refer to our wonderful social prescribing team who can ring to see if they can offer more help and advice (non medical) to see if day to day life for your mum can be organised.

I really thank you for your time and review.
