I was booked in for day surgery to remove a breast lump at Wishaw General. The surgeon was Mrs Lannigan. I arrived and was met by a nurse who introduced herself and then took me to my bed. Everything was explained to me by Fleur who took my obs and prepared me for my op. I was kept updated with estimated timescales for surgery which was great as managed my expectations. All the nurses and health care professionals were very professional and organised despite being busy. I then met with anaesthetist who explained his role and what would happen and then the surgeon. Everyone was friendly and put me at ease telling me at every step what was going to happen. Theatre staff Mr Smith came and got me and again explained what was going to happen in theatre. When I was prepped for theatre they all put me at ease and chatted away. When I woke up after op, a nurse was at my side explained what had happened and taking obs again for friendly and calming. Back on the ward Cheryl looked after me took obs again and brought food for which I was very grateful and prepared my discharge. Susan helped with my discharge too and made sure I had painkillers and was ok to leave. I was naturally very anxious about the surgery but the whole team put me at ease and made sure I was comfortable and felt safe. Thank you so much to the team, including the surgeon for everything and please let them know that they are a wonderful team and I appreciated their care.
