"Good luck if you need an appointment"

About: Oakmeadow Surgery (Ra Leach)

Unfortunately I'm struggling to understand how this is allowed to be called a GP surgery purely based on the fact that you cannot get an appointment. We have been trying for 3 weeks (every working day) from 8am & when/if you manage to get through all of the appointments have gone. We explained that the call is for our elderly parent & they had a pharmasist call her to give advice, the advice was that she must speak with a GP if the symptoms didn't clear up which obviously they haven't and the need for an appointment. In a last effort to get any kind of an appointment we have now made an online appointment which is 4 weeks away so all in all 7 weeks from first trying to get an appointment. Considering her age and how poor her health is, it's frightening to think that she cannot even get to see/speak to anyone for that length of time & to suggest that she gets a taxi to wait outside for them to open on the "off chance" she can get an appointment that way is on the verge of laughable, she's frail with very limited mobility. Covid may well be a contributing factor to their issues but the Management really needs to have a plan for moving foward, we totally understand that face to face appointments are restricted but to not provide telephone appointments either is dangerous and quite literally playing with peoples lives.

“Thank you for taking time to give feedback. We are sorry for your recent experience in making an appointment. We understand our patients’ frustrations.

Since the pandemic, in line with all other services, we have seen a significant increase in demand. In the past 12 months we have provided 9,000 more appointments than the year prior to the pandemic, representing a 20% increase

We are advertising for a further GP, but there is a significant shortage with the number of GPs reducing month on month.

In July and August 2022 there will be increased difficulty to book appointments as there are too few GPs available to cover leave.

Our GPs remain dedicated to trying to provide the best service they can. Each day they work over what the RCGP and BMA consider to be safe limits.

Please contact the practice directly so we can look into your specific example and see wherever we could have done anything differently.
