I arrived for my procedure this morning very nervous and terrified to the extent that I was literally having nightmares and panic attacks in the weeks leading up to it.
I was met by a lovely nurse who immediately put me at ease and explained everything that would happen and giving me ample opportunity to ask questions.
I opted for gas and air rather than sedation as due to my mobility disability I didn't want to be any more unstable while walking than I already am. When I was taken into the treatment room there was the doctor and 3 nurses, all lovely and chatting to me answering my questions etc. I was shown how to use the gas and air then the examination was started.
I was forewarned by the doctor on parts of my bowel that were tight so I used the gas and air and it was fine. Some parts of the exam were mildly painful like period cramps, but nothing that couldn't be tolerated. I had no cramping or gas pains afterwards, had a lovely cup of coffee and a sandwich, my results explained to me and I drove home. Every member of staff I had dealings with with lovely, they were compassionate, understanding and explained everything to me.
I have to go back in 3 years, will probably be apprehensive which is normal having any type of procedure, but I wont have the blind panic next time. I would also have the gas and air next time too, no after drowsy effects and straight back to normal activities afterwards.
A huge massive thank you to everyone today, you're amazing.
