"Beyond the call of duty"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care

(as a service user),

My experience from the staff was not a great experience as I came through A+E and it was clear to me that I had had a stroke but the staff member in  Triage was rude and abrupt, asked me if I had ever heard of Bell's Palsy to which I replied no. All they had checked was my blood pressure.

Eventually got through to see a stroke specialist who clarified that I had definitely had had a stroke and referred me over to the acute admissions ward. This is when things started to change and the whole attitude I was getting was beginning to change as It was recognized by a specialist. Eventually I was moved up to the stroke ward at Crosshouse where the care and consideration I have been given has at times gone beyond the call of duty. The Nurses are dedicated to their work and take patients concerns very seriously. I am getting home today purely because the Dr & Nurses were experienced.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share your feedback. I appreciate that this must have been a very stressful experience and I was particularly sorry that some of the staff you met appeared to be lacking in empathy and compassion for your situation. We would welcome the opportunity to investigate your concerns in more detail and if you think that would be helpful, please feel free to either email me, linda.russell7@aapct.scot.nhs.uk or call me on 01563 26210.

I was delighted to hear that you felt so well supported by the Stroke Team, and we will share your kind comments with them.

With all best wishes for your ongoing recovery.

Linda
