"Felt truly cared for giving birth to first child "

About: St Thomas' Hospital (London)

Despite the pandemic and lack of resources, I couldn’t believe the how well cared for I was by the staff of the birth centre and the home from home birth centre. My labour started in Home from Home and finished in theatre, and everyone who looked after us made me feel like they genuinely cared. The medical staff were just excellent in how they handled what was a tricky forceps birth. I felt so confident in them. The midwives were so caring and accommodating to my wishes to have a natural birth. They have made me forget the pain of labour by giving me great memories of the care. I only wish I could thank them all again in person and for the NHS to receive the funding it deserves so that these superheroes don’t have to overwork constantly. At least three of the midwives who looked after me stayed on an extra hour or more in their shift to ensure I was looked after. As much as this is kind of them it’s not right and their deserve better.

I do think some of the hospital policies for antenatal and delivery care are a little too black and white in terms of risk management. But I did appreciate how the staff explained the risks to me and respected my wishes.

Overall I’m so glad I chose St Thomas’ to give birth. More funding needed as it’s not fair that such caring people have to work so hard for so long.

But I would highly highly recommend St Thomas’ maternity services.
