"Lack of empathy"

About: General practices in Forth Valley

(as the patient),

I was asking for advice on the menopause. I provided symptom summary and asked for a referral for testosterone due to lack of libido.  The GP agreed but said I was very unlikely to get it and that it wouldn’t help anyway. I asked to try the Minerva coil and I was told I would have a very long wait and was not likely to get it due to my age.

The GP may have been stating facts, but I felt they completely lacked empathy. I was following advice recommended by an expert in menopause and I experienced negative feedback.

I previously went to the same GP to increase my dose of antidepressants as I was suicidal - they told me everyone has ups and down, that’s just life, and then grudgingly increased my dose. I felt it was a very poor attitude and showed complete lack of empathy.

Dear coordinationqy75

I'm sorry to hear of your experience. Can I suggest that, as your GP practice will be independent to the Health Board, you think about letting them know directly as I'm sure they'd want to hear directly so they can reflect on your story.

Regards
