After hearing a great review from a colleague I decided early in my pregnancy that I wanted a home birth.
On 28th June we welcomed our first baby after our own amazing home birth experience.
Through out my pregnancy most of my appointments were carried out at home by the Ayrshire home birth team. I only attended hospital for scans. It was so convenient and personal.
A friend gave me her birthing pool and we purchased a new liner and pump etc. We bought towels and shower curtains to protect the furniture and stocked up on labour snacks.
Throughout my pregnancy I practised hypnobirthing. This, along with relaxing music and just being in my own environment undoubtedly assisted in the quick progression of my labour. I experienced my first labour pains around midnight and was able to relax in my bath watching a film. The hombirthing team arrived around 4:00 am. I then got into the birthing pool which we set up in our kitchen and our baby arrived at 11:40am with zero interventions.
I feel very lucky to have had such a positive birthing experience with the assistance of my midwiives Dianne, Kyle and Naomi. I will definitely be aiming for a home birth with our next child and will strongly recommend a homebirth to everybody that I meet.
