My mother was brought into A&E by ambulance late on a Saturday night from a care home. I was not at home and was unable to attend with her. I telephoned around midnight and was put through to a wonderful nursing sister. I explained that my mother had dementia and was unaccompanied. She already knew who my mother was and where she was. She reassured me that she would be monitored and supported. She explained that it would be about 5 hours to see the doctor, and made a note for the doctor to call me when she was seen. Sure enough, at 5am I received a call from the doctor who gave me a full update on her, and reassured me that she was not distressed and had been moved to a quiet area while waiting. I know staff at Wexham a&e are under enormous pressure, but both the nurse and doctor took the time to listen to my concerns and ensure that my mother was treated appropriately, and that I was kept informed.
"Great staff"
