About: Borders General Practices

(as a service user),

Attended my GP practice which is running an emergency only service due to staff illness. I was astounded to see six people working in the reception area unmasked. One was wearing a mask under their nose.

Maybe read current government guidance and have a quick read up on transmission eh? Surely you have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable patients?

Dear Bluebell34

I am sorry to hear your concerns regarding seeing staff not wearing face masks when visiting your GP practice. I appreciate that after so long of everyone having to wear masks in most indoor places, it is strange to see people not wearing masks. I myself have found this hard to get used to.

I would like to assure you that in line with Scottish Government guidance, face mask and social distancing restrictions have been lessened for staff working in healthcare premises.

Whilst it continues to be necessary for all NHS Borders staff, patients and visitors to wear fluid resistant surgical masks in healthcare premises, staff are not required to wear a mask when seated in offices but should do so when not seated and when moving round the premises.

If you remain concerned, I would be happy to discuss this further with you. Please do not hesitate to email me on karen.maitland@borders.scot.nhs.uk if you would find this helpful.

Regards

Karen
