I was visiting my mother in ward A22 mainly caring for patients who have dementia . A nurse came in with a bed to replace the patients. They had what seemed to be a new student with them. The lady was in her chair.
They didn’t speak or explain to the lady what was happening and referred to her as “ her” to the student . They then proceeded to transfer the poor lady with a piece of equipment from chair to bed. She was distressed. The nurse kept saying grab her trousers or she’ll fall on her arse, and being really annoyed with the student who didn’t seem to have a clue what they were doing . The patient still hadn’t been told where and why she was being moved.
Towards the end she was told she had an infection and had to go to a single room. It was the way she wasn’t told and also the way the student was spoken to that really shocked me . You may lose them soon if they are spoken to like that.
I trained in the NHS many years ago and I was horrified that someone could speak to a patient like this. I thought I would calm down rather than report it on the ward which would have been difficult as they were very short staffed and couldn’t see anyone senior to speak to . This member of staff seriously needs to be trained in respect for others . I am praying they doesn’t go near my mother . Horrendous . Plus they knew we were listening which makes me wonder what they are like when no one is there . Disgusted.
"Patient being moved in an appalling way ."
