"Out of our depth"

About: Children's Specialist Health Services / Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

(as a service user),

My daughter was referred to CAMHS in May 2020 and as yet has had no contact or treatment, I have called them myself detailing a worsening situation and my GP has contacted them for support, during one conversation I was told my daughter wouldn’t be seen sooner unless she was suicidal this was a horrible conversation and I remember saying to the worker, that I hope we never get there.  

Unfortunately they neglected to provide any care and my 17 year old daughter attempted to take her own life, as a family we are terrified, angry and completely out of our depth

Thank you for your feedback to the service and making us aware of your difficult situation

I am very saddened to hear that you have had such a challenging experience trying to communicate your daughter’s distress to the service. I apologise if you feel that your concerns were not heard and you were left feeling upset and unsupported. Please be assured that we take communication regarding attempted suicide and suicidal thoughts in young people very seriously.

As such, I would urge you to contact the service as a matter of urgency to ensure an appropriate assessment is undertaken as soon as possible.
